Upgrading the hard drive on a T30
Upgrading the hard drive on a T30
What a great board you have here, to much to digest but I am trying, I used the search feature but struggled some. I just have a few questions:
1. Should everyone with a T30 upgrade their bios to the latestt?
2. Is it risky?
3. Does upgrading the bios allow the ram capacity to go from 1 gb to 2 gb
4. Is it necessary to upgrade bios to go to larger hard drive
5. How large can you go?

Re: Upgrading the hard drive on a T30
I'm from the if it ain't broke don't fix it school of thought. I only update when there's a need. I believe the T30 does support 2GB of memory. The spec was written when there were no 1GB memory sticks and was never updated. The WD 320GB hard drive is the largest you can get. You will need XP SP2 to see a drive larger than 137GB.

As long as the interface is NOT SATA, you'll be fine.
Any of these drives will do fine: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... name=ATA-6

RealBlackStuff, are the 7200 RPM drives okay to use? or are all the 7200 RPM drives SATA and can't be used?

There are no new PATA/ATA/IDE 7200rpm HDs anymore, unless it is NOS (new old stock).
All laptop PATA/ATA/IDE HDs are 5400rpm nowadays, and most of them are faster than the 'old' 7200rpm HDs.
You can NOT use any SATA drive (except in a special Ultrabay adapter, but that's a whole different story).
