T30 Flicker issue

#1 Post by thinkpadinside » Wed Dec 02, 2009 11:47 pm

Hi guys. This has been bothering me for a while, but ive been enjoying my quad core lappy while my t30 gathered dust. Whenever i flex the lcd or move my laptop, the video goes black. Backlight is on, but the video is black. When I bang the laptop a bit, the video comes back. is it the LCD, the inverter, or the graphics chip on the board comming off (can I use the post it trick or reflow?)

Definitely, it's not the inverter. The inverter is what powers the backlight (aka, CCFL); it does not affect the video signal in any way. Could be the LCD panel, the graphics chip or the LCD ribbon cable. Or any connection point between those pieces. Best advice would be to tear down the system to get to the ribbon cable. Removing both ends from the motherboard and the back of the LCD panel and then pushing them back together may be just enough to fix a dirty connection. While you are at it, inspect the length of the cable and see if you can spot any cracks, breaks or tears.
