T30 Video Drivers for Windows 7

#1 Post by Lifer » Wed Dec 16, 2009 1:13 pm

Anyone know if these exist? I've tried installing drivers from ATI but the setup cancels towards the end saying it couldn't complete and to contact Vendor. I go to the Lenovo site and they don't have any drivers for Windows 7 and the driver they provide for XP doesn't work either.

I'm stuck with "standard graphics adapter" as my driver and it refuses to recognize my card properly. This is causing stuttering problems with full screen video and window drags look strange. I've only ever experienced these symptoms when using a generic graphics driver. I'd rather not have to go back to XP just so I can watch movies properly.

Ideas?

Try the installation in XP Compatibility Mode.
And check the Windows 7 forum.

The T30 predates Vista let alone Windows 7. I don't think there is a video driver for a T30 for Windows 7. There are even (less important) drivers missing for my T61p that came preloaded with and certified for Vista. ... JDH

Try letting Windows update find the drivers.

There are NO drivers for ATi 7500 (16MB version no less) used on T30 units. This GPU is not considered powerful enough to run W7, and rightfully so.

You'll have to search the web for a modded driver, but the machine will NEVER feel anywhere as fast as it does in XP.

Good luck.

It's running fine so far. As long as video isn't full screen it looks normal. I've been searching the web, that's how I ended up here. The machine feels faster in windows 7 than it did in XP.

When you try the XP drivers from Lenovo and double click it. It should extract to the C: Drivers (or Lenovo). You need to open up your device manager. Go to Graphics and open up it's properties and click on the update drivers tab and navigate to C: drivers and begin installation.

I'm sorry if I can't be of more help. I'm not on Windoze now and the only time I use W7 is when updating the antivirus and playing my copy of Neverwinter Nights Diamond. I had an T30 that I installed W7 RC7100 to and I did have a driver that worked fine for it. Of course Aero did not work but video worked and there were no trailing Windows when moving open Windows around. I've gone through a couple of Thinkpads and should have taken a note on the T30.

I may have read something about 9.3 being compatible with legacy cards. I don't know if 7500 was included with that. Shame on ATI for only supporting WDDM graphics and no longer XDDM. There are many of us out here who love our older machines and aren't all about the glossy and plastic pieces of crap that many manufacturers are pushing these days! I may be a girl and personally love shiny things but for my laptops I want a solid and sturdy workhorse.

Did you tried installing Lenovo's system update 4.0? Maybe it can find the right drivers...

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-73695

I find it hard to believe that there are no drivers for the T30, at the end my X31 is maybe one generation later only and Lenovo do have the drivers. Did you also tried windows update?

I did similars steps as Emeraldgirl88 is describing above when I did my first Win7 install and my drivers were working. I did a second Win7 Ultimate install several weeks later and everything was configured automatically between Windows update the Lenovo's system update.

You can believe whatever you choose to, but the youngest T30 is six years old. In computer years, that's something like six zillion. A dinosaur - although an extremely lovable one.

That description doesn't sound fine to me, not on a low-resolution machine like T30.
The machine feels faster in windows 7 than it did in XP.
You must have ran a very bloated version of XP or something along those lines. Otherwise, you would have noticed a slowdown with W7.

I don't want to be a spoilsport, but I happen to have a T30 2366-86U with production date 05/03.
It's a (lovable) weakling with only 16MB Video RAM, but it runs perfect under XP, so why bother with W7?
You'll have to replace W7 in a few months anyway, when your RC-license runs out.
And the latest is nearly never the greatest...

I agree here, I had a T30 for several years as well. But my point was that if there are drivers for the 16MB ATI Radeon M6 my X31 has, why shouldn't be a driver for the ATI card your T30 has?

My guess is that they should not be so different, should it? (I'm too lazy to check it by myself)

Lifer,

Prior to upgrade did you happen to run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor?
To determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7 please go to the following link: http://tinyurl.com/no4xb7

It's possible that your graphics adapter may not be compatible with Windows 7. Another great resource to check compatibility is at the Windows 7 Compatibility center available here: bit.ly/1gW6Ns

Nothing crucial. I got all the drivers I needed from the Lenovo Support site for my model.

Presentation Director and Easy Eject do not have Windows 7 versions and it looks like Lenovo is not going to come out with one.

This is not good from my point of view. I prefer the Lenovo approach in both cases of a pop-up screen instead of built-in icons that want to move us in the Apple direction which I do not like. At this point, the icons disappear when you have switched or ejected and that is at least workable.
