New screen - laptop now has crash issue

#1 Post by shigs25 » Sat Jan 02, 2010 1:54 pm

This laptop is a T30 Thinkpad 2366-41U running XP Pro. I picked this PC up really cheap cause it had been stepped on and the screen had lots of lines running through it. It boots and runs fine but I got tired of using an external monitor.

I bought the replacement screen that came complete with the inverter and ribbon. When I took everything apart I wanted to make sure that new screen worked before putting it all back together. With either the old screen that works or the new screen plugged in, if the PC tries to boot after about 3 secs the splash screen will come up and in that instant the PC powers down. If I take out the CMOS battery and let it sit overnight I can hook up my external monitor and it works fine and boots properly. If I switch back to the screen (Fn F7) it instantly powers down.

I cannot see any bent wires on the motherboard connector and I have tried blowing on the connector and ribbon cable in case of a possible short but I still have the problem. Any thoughts?

Check that the LCD cable is the correct one for XGA or SXGA+ LCD (you had XGA).
Also, check the LCD connector on the motherboard, any dirt or bent pins?
