I've got a IBM ThinkPad T23 which I picked up second hand. Originally it acted as though it had the BOD as it wouldn't fully power up on battery. If the laptop was on the AC charger, it would power up on the second attempt. I finally narrowed the problem down to a bad LAN/Modem card which I replaced. The BOD symptoms have now disappeared and the laptop runs greats.
There is one quirk I noticed when an optical mouse is plugged in. If the laptop is off and plugged into the AC charger, the mouse is illuminated. If the laptop is off and isn't plugged in, everything is normal and the mouse isn't illuminated like it should be. Problem only appears when the AC charger is plugged in. I was wondering if this is just a quirk with this laptop or is there the possibility of bigger problems ahead.
It should be noted that the CMOS battery is dead and I have a new one ordered. Otherwise the laptop runs great with 512mb of memory and Windows XP Pro.
Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Re: IBM T23 powers a mouse on when off.
Does this happen when switched off, or is it in Standby or Hibernation?
IIRC power on the USB port stays on when there is also a battery in the T23.
FYI: T23s don't have the BOD symptoms.

RealBlackStuff,
Thanks for the reply.
As long as the AC charger is plugged in, the mouse is illuminated even when the laptop is turned off. If the AC charger isn't plugged in and the laptop is off, the mouse stays off until the system is powered up.
I also have a T22 and another T23 ThinkPad. When I connect the same mouse to either of this laptops, the mouse stays off until the laptop is powered up.
Thanks for the information on the BOD and the T23. I was mistakenly under the impression that all the T2x series were plaqued with this problem.
