T23 with 40GB show 33.8GB?
Hi all:
I put an old 40GB in my new "old" T23 and it only shows 33.8GB. Am I missing something? Is there anything I should set? It's a IBM Fujitsu HDD. I read something that a jumper may be needed to activate the extra space? I don't recall that was a problem in a different machine on this drive. Is there somewhere in the bios of T23 I need to set?
Thanks,
Gary

Your HD is fine, no need to change any settings/jumpers.
That HD (coming from an older Thinkpad) most likely still has the Restore partition (hidden, ca. 1.5GB) on it, as well as XP itself (2-3GB).
Furthermore, an empty/new 40GB only shows up as 37something GB, thanks to manufacturer's dishonesty.

Re: T23 with 40GB show 33.8GB?
Thanks for the input. It's very strange. When I clone an old image (30GB image) onto this HDD, the program sees it as 37GB. After finishing and repartitioning, it only sees 33.8GB. But like you said, perhaps there is a hidden partition somewhere but I don't seem to see it from disk manager. Is there any other way to see or activate it? Well, worse comes to worse, I guess I'll just re-format and try a fresh install.
Thanks.

hi. use dban or similar before you re-install, it will wipe all partitions even if you can't see them.

Try GParted as well. It creates a boot CD which will show and allow you to delete all partitions if you wish
