IBM DLA, Please help!!

#1 Post by kengeo » Mon Apr 05, 2010 12:36 pm

I recently used a set of recovery discs on a new hdd for my T23. Everything works fine except that when I plug my 3G usb dongle in (I use this when wireless is not available) I get a message saying that I need to restart the computer to use IBM DLA, I restart & then get the same message!! What is IBM DLA & what happens if I uninstall it? Has anyone else had this problem when using a 3G dongle?

DLA has been succeeded by Drag2Disc.
You can get it here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 40970.html
You need to have a CDRW or DVDRW installed in the laptop.

Check that 3G dongle, it may require USB2.0 which is not available on a T23 (it has USB1.1).
You can buy PCMCIA USB2.0 adapters.

kengeo,

If you need a PCMCIA USB 2 adapter, check E-Bay. The link below is for a flush mount card that works very well in the T23 as several of us have found out. Most vendors are from China, but you might find one closer. I opted for 10 day wait from China considering the price.

Thanks for your replies, I already have a usb2 card. My problem is that this DLA message keeps popping up whenever I insert the dongle, telling me to restart the computer! I am not sure what DLA is for, is it to do with burning CDs? I use Nero for everything to disc, so can I uninstall DLA or will this cause problems? Cheers.

DLA - Drive Letter Access
Originally came with the Record Now application on ThinkPads. It provided Drag and Drop capability for files to CD.

Never worked very well, so I would uninstall it.

Thanks Ashley for confirming that DLA is part of a program for drag & drop to a disc for burning, as I said previously I use Nero so I will uninstall DLA. Cheers.
