Installing an LCD on a T23

#1 Post by westonts » Tue Apr 13, 2010 4:20 pm

I dropped my T23 and the LCD shattered. Certain parts of the screen were still visible (this will be important later) but the screen still needed to be replaced.

I purchased an LCD and set upon installing it. The first result was a a black screen, where I could see the IBM logo, but just barely. I took it apart, put it together again, and was confronted with the opposite problem: the backlight worked, but I didn't get any image.

I tried this several times, and each time I would get the lamp but not the image. I plugged in my old screen, as a reference point, and got the same result: light but no image.

Since I know the image worked on both screens only thirty minutes earlier, I am led to believe that in the process, I damaged another part. My question is, what part did I damage? Or, what detail have I missed?

I should try and be very specific as to how I installed the screen. I unscrewed and removed the bezel. I pulled the lcd out, unplugging it from the power source (the small plug on the bottom?) and from the plug on the back. I slipped the plug from the back onto my new screen, plugged in the power source (this took several tries, to establish which was the right way to plug it in, and is likely the cause of not having a backlight on my first attempt); I tried and retried this method about 5 times, alternatively attaching or not attaching the bezel.

Replace the cable, they can be finicky. The other thing to check is to make sure you are replacing like screens. I think you could get a SXGA, it should be an XGA.

Ok. I took your advice and bought a new video cable. No dice. What's next?

RBS, do you know if it is possible to upgrade an XGA T23 to SXGA+? Would it require a new cable or inverter or anything besides the panel swap? I see people talking about screens for T4* all the time; not so much about T23.

Yes you can.
But you need another SXGA+ LCD cable 27L0590.
The inverter is the same for both.
