T-23 Win XP Online Connect Problem

#1 Post by BruisedQuasar » Sat Apr 17, 2010 9:16 am

I recently gave my daughter a T-23 with dual boot Xubuntu & Win 2000 Pro SP4. She signed up with ATT DSL but cannot get on line. She brought the 23 to me. I got online automatically (Comcast Cable) with Xubuntu and easily and quickly with Puppy 4.31 Live CD.

No go with Win 2000 Pro. Wifi in Windows connects through access points. I'm thinking the problem may be the windows ethernet driver??

I have a Belkin Ethernet cable to USB adaptor I'm thinking of trying. Any thoughts about this goofy Windows problem?

All the drivers that are available for W2K can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-57669

It's not unheard of that the ethernet card fails (the smaller one, next to the wifi/modem card).
With a CAT-5 cable she/you should be able to connect. If not, replace that card.

Thank you for the reply.

The card is fine. I can connect with several Linux distros. Only win 2000 is no go.

I found & fixed the problem. W2K had been reinstalled. Whoever reinstalled did not realize the driver for the Intel Pro/100 VE ethernet must be installed by way of a Windows ritual and did not realize Windows Device Manager shows it not as Lenovo support has it but as "Other" and under it as "Ethernet Controllers".

I do hate Windows so, going back to Windows 2.11. I am not sure which is worse huge greedy corporations like Microsoft or corrupt elected officials who let them play monopoly.
