802.11b sees my wireless account but won't connect
Hi all, long time no see. I used this wireless T23 for a year at another location and it worked fine. I moved into a new residence and the latest qwest modem was sent to me, a PK5000, and I'm sure I have it configured correctly because I go to the 192.168.0.1 address and everything shows as working. I use an ethernet wire to connect to the modem on my home pc and this laptop. I can't get it to go wireless though. I went to device manager and updated the wireless driver and whenever I had the T23 search for a wireless in the area it went to blue screen and began dumping. So I used system restore and now it's working fine again when it searches for an account but it still won't connect. Is the 802.11b simply incompatible with the latest qwest modem? Thank you for your advice.

First of all, with an adapter that old you'd have to use WEP encryption and have it turned on in the router....see the FAQ for your router.
http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/modem ... 0_FAQ.html
The data sheet for the router says it is 802.11b backward compatible. I do not know if that must be enabled in the router but it is something for you to read the manual to learn the answer... I'd be willing to bet it is set for 'g' only out of the box.

Re: 802.11b sees my wireless account but won't connect
I'm terribly sorry for not replying sooner. Bitter custody battle which finally resolved into arrangements where I have my two boys for two months of each summer in South Dakota and in August we're all moving 1600 miles away from familiarity and friends to California where mom has a new lover and new life and good for her.
I learned a lot about WEP and the other but what ended up happening is that I called Qwest and they had me simply delete the wireless account that was on my laptop and then had the laptop search for available wireless. It found me, I typed in my password and I was up and running wirelessly in two minutes.
I love my Thinkpad! I'll be carrying it with us as we cross the USA seeking lakes and pools and wifi locations.
Thank you for your advice.
