AC brick repair !!!

#1 Post by Berny » Wed Jun 16, 2010 3:24 am

Hello,
just want to share my experience in repairing the AC power brick of my T23.

When I plugged the AC brick in, i noticed on my T23 that it would not charge. A multi meter gave me 0 Volt reading, so it was clear that the brick was gone. Here is how I repaired it:

It was not fully dead, because I could hear a clicking from inside the brick, with about 1 click per second. So I opened it up by putting the brick on the side, putting a knife on the glued joints and hitting jently on the knife with a hammer. Worked really good.
So, now I was inside the brick and looked for smoked components. Some odour came from a diode. It is screwed to the cooling metal strip (left side) and has 3 legs. Actually it is 2 diodes in one casing (so called Schotty diode). In the circuit they are used in parallel. In my case one of them was short, driving the hole circuit crazy. I bought a new diode of the same type, put it back in with some thermal grease between the diode an the metal strip and glued the casing back together. Runs like a charme again now for almost a year.

Caution: Unplug the brick before you start work! Electricity can kill you.
