Adapter to connect a DVD player via USB?

#1 Post by newyorkpaulie » Sat Oct 02, 2010 11:26 am

Has anyone heard of an adapter that allows a DVD drive to be connected via USB? The drive I am speaking of is one that slides into an Ultrabay slot. I just got a NetBook that does not have an internal DVD drive and I'd like to avoid having to buy another drive (already have several for my T30).

I have something along these lines.. it's a little box that you slide the T4x/T6x optical drive into.

Assuming that you have an Ultrabay 2000 (T2x, T30) optical drive, then this is something that the factory offered:

There are other adapters for Ultrabay Slim like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0376643839

I bought one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-External-Sl ... 0563113792
That was just the case for it.
They claim it's for a SLIM drive, but when I got it I could fit an Ultrabay 2000 drive in it.
UB2000 drives are much more solid than the SLIM version, so I was happy about it.
Works great via USB cable on any laptop!

I also have one of the cheap ebay slide in thingys. Works fine on the UB2k drives.
