Embedded Controller Question

#1 Post by kc27 » Sat Oct 23, 2010 10:00 pm

Hello All

Is there a way to roll back to a previous version of an embedded controller, then bring it back to the the current version (1.07)? My thinkpad is a t30 2366-ku1.

Thanks in advance for any ideas on this.

I know you can do this with BIOS, but never tried it with an EC load. You 'may' be playing with fire because certain BIOS versions require certain EC levels, so if you down-level either the results may be unpredictable ... proceed with caution. Are you trying to fix any particular problem?

Thanks, based on your advice and my reluctance to mess with something that does not have a backout plan, I think I'm going to leave it alone. I had read in another thread on this forum that someone had successfully done downgraded the BIOS and embedded controller, but I'm guessing they had to take what youi mentioned into consideration when making this change.

What was driving my question was the fact that I had used Thinkpad Fan Controller (TPFC) to modify the behavior of the Thinkpad cooling fan, and when I returned the settings to BIOS control, it seemed as though TPFC had altered the embedded controller's fan functionality. After rebooting and letting the Thinkpad run for a while, that does not seem to be the case.
