T23 works with battery but not AC power adapter

#1 Post by hongjun » Tue Nov 09, 2010 9:50 pm

Hi,

If I plug in the AC power with T23 off, it charges the battery. T23 only powers on battery. With AC power plugged, press the power button, lights flash and T23 beeps, then goes out. Press the power button again, nothing happens. Unplug the AC power, and press power button, nothing happens. Have to wait a long time to repeat the above again.

With battery removed, and AC power plugged, press the power button, light flash and beeps, then goes out. Again and again.

Thought was bad memory, bough new one, still the same. I really like T23. If any can help, I will be greatly grateful.

Hongjun

My guess is a loose inductor. See the post by RealBlackstuff in this thread -

Checked all inductors top and bottom. Seems all right. Small resistance. And also touched the pads with solder iron. No luck.

Since laptop works on battery, and it charges. Only thing is that it beaps and shuts down whenever AC plugs in. I suspect it may be a regulator went blown.

I am thinking of replacing the motherboard. But wondering if with the new motherboard, the original operating system can boot and start and can be used as if it were the original motherboard.

Thanks,

Hongjun

Yes, your chances of success while booting the same OS/hard drive but using a different board are high.

Even though your battery seems to charge, a bad AC adapter might also be the case.
Find someone with anyone of these: A30/A31/T20/T21/T22/T23/T30/T40/T41/T42/T43 and borrow their adapter.
Needs to be output 16V/72W.
Good luck.

I checked the output voltage, a bit heigher than 16V, about 16.25V. The reason I got the laptop messed up, is when I tried to replace memory, but didn't remove the battery. I smelled smoke out of the board somewhere.

ICs stop working when you let the smoke out.
