ThinkPad T21 LCD Issue

#1 Post by IBM » Sun Jan 09, 2011 12:26 pm

I write this post to you in hopes for one solution.

MY SCREEN IS FLICKERING!!!!!!!!!!

K, so I was in class using my favorite IBM ThinkPad T21, then out of the blue, the screen starts to flicker. I went home and opened the case to see that the ribbon cable has been severed, so I replace the ribbon cable, and then things start working again. But then it did it again! I cannot find a replacement LCD for this old thing! The connector ribbon is brand new, it was the OEM that was shipped with the ThinkPad when I bought it years ago.

Do I have a new ThinkPad I could use? Yes, but I love my T21, it is so sexy, simple and sleek.

So, any suggestions?

Does the screen flicker if you hook up an external LCD or monitor?

Any XGA screen from any T20, T21, T22 or T23 will work and fit in there.
You could also try to replace the (XGA) inverter.
But get PC Doctor first and run that.

I seem to have fixed the issue previously stated. The problem was the CD-ROM drive was frequently and rapidly connecting and disconnecting from the system, and the ThinkPad was reallocating power as needed, trying to supply just the right amount of power to the LCD, the Processor, and the other components. A new DVD/CD-ROM drive from a T22 did the trick and fixed the issue.

I really appreciate all help offered, you all are so kind. Now, time to figure out how to get my sound card to work on a distro of Linux. XD

Thank you all!
