Help??!! Bluetooth issues T43 2686-DHU w/BT FRU 27R1880

Hi All,

This is my first post to the forum and I was hoping that someone could give me some assistance with an issue that I’m having with setting up and configuring Bluetooth on my ThinkPad T43 model 2686-DHU

I had a different model T43 ThinkPad (gotta love these things they are just rock solid) and it did not have the Bluetooth module so I bought a BT daughter card for it FRU 27R1880, (which according to what I read on the forum and at various sites is compatible with the T43) but alas when I opened my original T43 I thought it had the BT antenna and then when I went to put in the card, found I was mistaken, no antenna. So I dropped the card in the unit and just left it there knowing that I couldn’t use the built-in BT.

Then a couple of weeks ago my wife dropped my ThinkPad on the floor  so I had to buy a replacement T43 the above mentioned 2686-DHU. While in the process of pulling the memory, HD etc out of my broken unit to install in the new one I noticed that this one had a the BT antenna and I thought ah ha I’m in business.

The 2686-DHU ThinkPad is running
WinXP Pro SP3
After installing my old hard drive in it I updated all the IBM drivers and BIOS from the Lenovo website to the latest release for the 2686-DHU before I tried messing with the BT.

I know that the BT card works because if I let the MS drivers install I can see the ThinkPad from other BT devices. However, the MS drivers don’t support the functionality I want, namely Stereo over BT.

I also know that the card work fine with stereo over BT as I downloaded the Toshiba BT drivers and installed them easily and they work, but expire in 30 days, so that isn’t a solution.

So far this is what I have tried:

I turned on the BT Fn-F5, (before loading the IBM drivers) and of course the MS drivers load up, so I get online read through the various posts in the forum and see how to disable the MS BT, which I do, go through the whole process, install the IBM BT drivers from here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-61425 file 7jba10ww.exe, follow all the IBM instructions and nada, when I click on the BT icon in the system tray I get the “no Bluetooth devices found please be sure your BT device is plugged in and turned on” And yes I have verified that it was turned on.

Next step I figured that maybe with all this back and forth I screwed up something in the registry so I did a full restore from a pre-bluetooth image a tried again same thing.

Did another restore, tried a different set of drivers from IBM that I found for BT II same issue.

Did another restore, followed some instruction I found on the forum for disabling the MS BT drivers, from a MS tech article link listed in the forum. Tried again same thing.

Did another restore, disabled MS BT drivers, however even when it’s disabled I still get a BT icon in the device manager. Also, sometimes I get a USB device not recognized.
Installed the IBM BT drivers, same issue “no BT devices found”

Did some more searching and found some instructions that said you had to update the driver and select the unsigned driver, did this, same issue.

Maybe I missing something, but everything I’ve found on the Net and on the ThinkPad forums seems to indicate that for some reason getting this to work right is a nightmare and a half.

Does anybody have a link, walk through, How-To, recommendation of drivers that need to be used with FRU 27R1880 or any other ideas or suggestions about how to get the BT Daughter Card FRU 27R1880 working correctly on a T43 2686-DHU?

This is about to drive me over the edge!! :banghead:

Cheers,

Gordon
