Strange T30 (Another one)

#1 Post by jronald » Mon Apr 18, 2011 7:27 am

OK
Grab a different T30 from the pile, slapped the recover CDs in and it took forever...2 hours plus.
On the final restart it started throwing errors about different FAT systems. I tried new memory modules, different HDDs different DVD/CDs and a different set of recovery CDs, Threw the same set of errors twice (4 hours wasted). Swapped the HDD into my personal T30 and was ready to put the HDD back into the other T30 in about 1 hour, this included all the customizations it does after its "done"

Swapped the HDD into the T30 and nothing, nada. HDD light flickered, then got the curser at the top of the screen and it just sits there.

Moved the HDD into a machine with a bad memory slot (this is the 3rd machine) and it comes up and boots just fine.

Suggestions? Bad HDD controller on the MoBo?

Could well be. Is the BIOS/ECP at the newest level?

Dont remember, but I doubt it. Im posting on the 3rd machine now. (bad memory slot)

Just for gaggles, I took the HDD from my personal machine and tried it in the T30 giving me headaches, it will not boot either.

I might lift the palm rest and reseat the right angle HDD adapter just for the heck of it. The screen is gorgeous, wouldn't you know.

Did you try a different optical drive on the problem machine?

It could be a broken solder joint near the HDD-Connector. It wouldn't be unusual, when the previous owner has the HDD often reseatet or replaced. In rare cases it could be a flexing southbridge, but in that case the optical drive wouldn't work too.
