t30 not sure what the issue is...

#1 Post by msnuser111 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 2:00 am

I bought a T30 that looks like its never been used, the keys still have texture to them, the top cover doesnt have a scratch on it,the case is in beautiful condition, but when i turn it on i get all lights at the top of the keyboard lit up for about a second then 1 light like normal, but during this time, the cpu fan starts, speeds up 3 distinct tumes, then i hear a click and the computer turns off, screen never lit up,the whole thing happens in about 3 seconds. Ive tried removing hdd,dvd drive, wifi, reseating ram multiple times in each slot, adding pressure to southbridge, gpu, ram slots, reseating display connector, booting up with and without battery connected to power adapter, dock,or just on battery,i tried replacing the cpu with a known good one,a few sticks of known good ram out of my t42,booting using power button on keyboard and on dock,i get exactly the same result every time, the only thing i can get it to do differently is with no ram it beeps normally saying it has no ram and stays on until i turn it off,and if i hit the power button within the first second of it being on with ram in,it beeps once and turns off.
once it turns itself off,it cannot be powered up again until i pull the battery and power for about 5 seconds, but when i turn it off before it clicks,it will turn back on with no issues.
i have tried everything i can possibly think of to revive this thing, anyone have any more ideas? it looks like the ram slots have been very cleanly resoldered recently because every pin on both sockets looks a LOT shinier than the minipci slot pins. sorry for the typos, lack of punctuation, capitalization,or any other errors, but i typed this out on a 3.2" touchscreen.

Unless that was done professionally, there is a good chance that the RAM slots are shorted. Try a new systemboard. They can't be that much for a T30 these days. Get one with a guarantee where the seller says both RAM slots are good ....

From what I can see,it looks professionally done, none of the pins look even close to being shorted,it looks like they just remelted what was there without adding any solder. I will probably end up buying a new board,I just wanted to at least try getting this one working first.

Hi. Hate to dig up an old post, but I am having this exact same issue with my T400. Did you ever find a solution? Thanks

I had A similar issue with a T42 that had coffee spilt on it, it was left for around a month as I presumed it was totally dead. After that I fired it up as a last attempt and it's worked perfect ever since!

This isn't really a solution but more of a "don't give up hope!" it may come back to life!
