T30 Bios updated but it blew off Intel 802.11G WiFi

#1 Post by cadillacmike68 » Wed Sep 07, 2011 9:15 am

I updated my main T30's BIOS (it was 2.03) to 2.10 (Thanks Ray!!), and it immediately [censored] me out on reboot about the Intel G WiFi mini card.

I know I had to start a boot CD and run a little BIOS update program on it when i first installed the mini WiFi, but i was thinking that the newer BIOS would not need that (actually i completely discounted the possibility of it getting rejected!) so here i am with an unusable WiFi in my T30, which of course i had to take out. And of course I left the Cisco 802.11B at home as well.

I have the CDs (bought 2 of these things) but they are at home and I'm on duty on the other side of the state in Orlando. Does anyone have a link to a place where i can download the the little Intel BIOS update program, and can I boot a floppy (Win98SE) to update the BIOS (or can I make a boot floppy by frankenizing the BIOS update diskette!) or do i have to trek across 100 plus miles (over 200 mi round trip) to get a CD and get my machine working again??

Thanks in advance.

Download the floppy and/or CD images here: http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/t ... error-fix/
Or just the no-1802.com file here: http://www.wayne2.net/no_1802.htm

Thanks RBS, I got all the files.

Of course with this hamstrung govt issue box, I can't DO anything with the ISO or img file. I might have the old IBM disk imager (loadfsdk or whatever it's called) on my machine to make the floppy. No idea how to get / transform the ISO file onto a CD as a bootable disc though.

But i did find the No1802.com file and i can try that on one of my ginuea pig T30s and as a backup, I'm meeting my wife in Lakeland for dinner where she's bringing me my Intel CDs that came with the minicard. that and a fresh uniform because i sweated my a$$ off in this today and have a conference to go to in the morning!

Use any old boot floppy, even from W98.
Copy the no-1802.com file onto it, boot from that floppy, and run no-1802.com. That's it.

FYI: The .ISO file is a byte-for-byte image of what would be on a disk drive, be it a hard drive, CD or DVD. You do not write it to a blank optical disk in the normal manner (i.e., "make a data disk") but instead must use a program which understands how to deal with the .ISO file. One such program is CDBurnerXP and can be found here:

http://www.cdburnerxp.se/

Download and install the program (if you can on your gov't rig), associating .ISO files with the program if you want to be able to simply double-click any .ISO file and have it launch CDBurnerXP. Otherwise, start the program, select the "Burn ISO image" option and point the program to the .ISO file.

Thanks again, Roxio actually worked for once in its puta life on my machine and enabled me to create the CD. That program usually craps out on start with some license file is invalid or corrupt with no explanation.

I also copied the .com to my W98SE boot floppies.

Still can't figure out what to do with the .IMG file. I'm looking for the Loaddskf utility which i used to have, but if i recall that file wanted .dsk files.

Both methods worked on my ginuea pig T30, so i did it to my main box and i'm back in business.

And i had a nice dinner with my wife!

got to go. thanks again.
