Installed Power Manager, But Cannot Access It

#1 Post by kc27 » Sun Sep 11, 2011 6:38 pm

I did a clean install of Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3 on my 2366 ku1 T30 Thinkpad. It has a 2ghz processor with 2gb of ram.

I installed Thinkpad Power Management ver 1.62 - I downloaded it from this page http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... 4gxpeg%20-

A dialogue box appears stating that the Power Management software installed successfully, and that a reboot is necessary to complete installation. After a reboot, I cannot find out where to find the Power Management interface. I know it is installed, because it is listed in my "add and remove programs" list.

Maybe I am missing a step, or am misunderstanding how this software is supposed to work. Can someone give me some advice on how this software is used? Thanks in advance for any help on this.

I clicked around in the Control Panel and did not see Power Manager. Is there something I need to do to make it visible?

I got it going.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed on this machine. I turned off real-time protection in Security Essentials and turned off the Windows firewall, and was able to get Power Manager to install successfully.

I have reinstalled Windows XP Pro using IBM's three Recovery CD(s) on both of my T30(s) -- followed by MS's SP2 and SP3 updates.

If installed properly, you ought to see a light lime green box with something like "99%" in bold black characters on your system tray.

Battery MaxiMiser
When I left-click on the box,
I can click on "Battery Information"
which shows [Battery Health] (e.g. capacity and cycle count)

During one of my Windows XP Pro installs, I experimented with several firewalls. One of them removed the Battery MaxiuMiser Icon on my system tray.

My icon came back after I Clicked on...
[Start][All Programs]
[Thinkpad][Thinkpad Utilities]
[Battery MaxiMiser Wizard]

Robert

Thanks for the advice. I did an uninstall and tried reinstalling, but the reinstall would only reach 99%, then stop.

That's when I decided to turn off Windows Security Essentials and the firewall, just to see if that might be the cause. Once I did that, the install completed and I now see the lime green box you described.

I did not use Thinkpad CDs, just a regular Windows Professional install disk. I had thought about getting the Thinkpad recovery CDs, but wasn't sure if they would load the laptop with a lot of uneeded software. I helped a family member with a new HP laptop recently, and could not believe the amount of extras that were installed in addition to the operating system. That got me thinking that maybe the IBM recovery disks would install similar "extras".
