Hi,
I have the following T61p model 6457-Y74. It originally came without the fingerprint reader, so after purchasing what i thought was a compatible palmrest w/ fingerprint, i then replaced the part but found that the reader was not working, nor is it detected in the BIOS. Do i need to flash the BIOS once i have upgraded the palmrest? Or have i bought a faulty/incompatible part? The specific part number for the palmrest is 42W2748, and i was assured by the seller it would be compatible. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Re: T61p upgraded palmrest with fingerprint scanner not detected
well not sure where u got them from ,,,, but THINKPAD = usually needs Genuine parts with VALID FRU#numbers to be ACTIVATED in/within the BIOS. This is often esepcially true for some/most of the older models of T Series.....
not sure if there is failed HARDWARE - very well might be , but you do need THE REAL THING - not someone writing those numbers on that part!
Sorry. but Hope this helps

Re: T61p upgraded palmrest with fingerprint scanner not detected
No, this is a genuine part with genuine FRU number, bought off ebay. Am i right to assume that if the laptop never originally came with a fingerprint reader, that option would not be in the BIOS? Would merely replacing the palmrest with one that has a fingerprint reader bring the option up in the BIOS? This is why i'm wondering whether if i flash the BIOS that might bring it up as an option...

Just the fact that you've installed a palmrest with FPR should bring up the option in BIOS...
