Did I miss something or is the board dead?

#1 Post by Microspeed » Sat Oct 29, 2011 10:12 pm

I have a T60 1953-D9U. It appears to have dead planar. When the power button is pressed the fan spins then stops. No hard drive, no beeps. The power light stays on and that about it.
So far I have tried removing the memory, drives and wireless card. Pressing the power button ten times and then holding it down for 30 sec. It still does not give any POST beep codes. I have thought that maybe I could try removing the BIOS battery overnight but I kind of think it would be a waste of time. It is probably dead. Anyone have any ideas?
If not I guess I need to start looking for a replacement in the marketplace.

Thanks

Sounds pretty dead to me, but go ahead and try anything you can think of. You don't have much to loose.

Also consider the value of the machine (resale), and the value (to you), before you begin spending money on it. It may be repairable too. Unlike the T61 that usually have a bad nVidia chip, the T60 can sometimes be repaired with the right equipment.

Did the computer get dropped at all?

I just ask because maybe the processor needs to be reseated. I would try that. Might be some other components worthwhile to reseat as well.

Remove all the RAM, try powering it on. Does it beep?

Agreed with the CPU reseating suggestion.

Good luck.

I did try removing the ram and it did not beep. :(
I will pull the fan and re-seat the CPU tomorrow and see what happens
As far as it being dropped, to my knowledge it has not.
It doesn't look like it got in a fight with a cup of coffee either. (No apparent "water" damage) The only thing that I observed straight away was a bad battery. All of the testing was done with a known good battery and know good power supply.
Thank you for all your quick replies.

I have an extra I Intel based motherboard that will work for you if you are in the market for replacing out the MB.
