Frankenpad issue

Hi,
I have a strange Frankenpad issue. I have an external monitor (1920x1080) and recently when I rebooted I can not get my external to display at full resolution. It will only go as high as the resolution on my main Flexview (1600x1200). I've uninstalled as many drivers as I could but to no avail. What do I do? I hooked up my 11" Edge to my monitor and it comes up fine. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling the FX570 drivers but to no avail. Thanks for any suggestions.

A few technical details about the machine you call "Frankenpad" would be very helpful to know for any first assessment. If you don't supply at least a bare minimum of technical information, nobody will be able to help.

Oops, sorry. I have a standard T60 with 1600x1200 Flexview with a T61motherboard with FX 570m. I'm running the 9500 (Penryn). Other than that, it's Windows 7 64-bit with a few SSD's. My external display is a LG E2360. The electronics on the LCD is fine because my Edge 11 is able to use full resolution. For some reason my Thinkpad thinks my external monitor has the same resolution as my Flexview.

So far, I've uninstalled the monitor drivers (Dev. Mgr). I've also uninstalled the Display Adapter drivers then went into Programs and uninstalled the drivers there. I rebooted, re-installed the drivers and everything was still broken.

Have ever tried to actually configure and define the display resolution for the external monitor via right mouse click on the desktop background and choosing "Display resolution"? Is the expected display resolution offered in the respective configuration dialogue? Usually the display resolution can be configured separately for each connected monitor device, even also in Win7.

Still, you say "standard T60". A standard T60 with Intel graphics cannot display higher than 1600X1200 on an external monitor. A standard T60 with ATi graphics can go up to 2048x1536

OP's mobo is an nVidia FX570m, which should well be capable to display a lot higher.
Windows 7 has a built-in Presentation Mode (hold the Windows logo key while pressing P).

Yes, I did do that. In fact, it's been working fine for a few weeks and all of a sudden after a reboot it stopped working correctly. So for the first few weeks I ran 1600x1200 for my laptop and 1920x1080 for my eternal LCD. I've looked in the NVidia control panel as well as the standard right mouse click on the desktop to change resolutions.

As for standard, T60, it's actually a standard T60p that was gutted because I put in the T61 planar.

No idea how to help you with that any further, as this appears to be more a Windows issue than anything else. My humble Windows knowledge is only pretty basic as i am a 99.9% Linux user most of the time. You might like to try out booting and running your machine with a recent Linux live CD (e.g. Ubuntu) to cross check if the same issues appears with another OS.

If you put in a T61 mainboard it is no more a standard T60p, but rather a T61 within a T60 chassis using a T60 display. The mainboard and CPU define the actual computer. I have a similar setup, albeit using a T61 Intel mainboard, and call it a T61+ thanks to the added benefit of a BOE Hydis UXGA IPS display.

I finally was able to force Windows to use the same driver. For some reason it was using the generic driver and not allowing me to update with the proper driver. It's all fixed now. Thanks.
