Won't boot / plug indicator stays lit [after] unplugging?

I have a weird issue with 15" T61 (6459-CTO):

Power button does not power up laptop, but if I pull system and CMOS battery and then plug in it will boot automatically and works fine.

The other symptom is that the plug icon stays lit after unplugging from laptop if on battery power. Tried multiple batteries/ac adapters/RAM/HD.

Thoughts?

I've seen this too. I eventually replaced the system board. It may have been possible to repair the board, but since it had the unreliable nvidia chip, I didn't feel it was worth investing repairs in it so I swapped an Intel board.

Mine also would sometimes refuse to shut down fully, so it was necessary to remove the battery to get it to shut down.
