T61 locks up/BSODs when I unplug from charger

Hi all,

I have had this problem with my T61 for quite a while, ever since I switched to Windows 7. Whenever my laptop is plugged into the charger, if I remove the charger, the screen will turn black and the machine becomes unresponsive. I then have to hold the power button down to restart it. Occasionally, it will show me a bluescreen instead and then restart itself. The bluescreen message goes away too fast so I cannot tell what it says when it does blue screen.

Has anyone had this problem before and successfully fixed it? I have tried everything from new video drivers, to Windows updates, and so on. I just can't figure out what the problem is. Please help!

Please post your 7 - digit model number (i.e. 7661-cc2), which is found on the bottom of the system and in the bios screen. Then go into computer properties (winkey + pause key), hit advanced system settings, startup and recovery and uncheck the automatically restart box - now when the bluescreen comes up it should stay up long enough to determine part of the error.

The model is 7658-CTO. Not a lot of help, I know because that is a custom built system right?

I unchecked the automatically restart box and will attempt to recreate the problem. I will post back. Thanks!

Also check device manager and see if any of the hardware isn't recognized. Even if it is, I'd update all drivers with latest versions, or run system update program.

Also, put in a known good battery (by good, I don't mean one that holds a charge, I mean one that works in a machine and doesn't have this behavior.

Then run windows in safemode and see if the problem still exists.

My guess is a driver, or bad battery.

ps. I've installed Win7 in about 20 t61 units and never seen this. did you install over an existing win version, or in a freshly formatted partition?
