age of T60P

#1 Post by lemmerdeur » Mon Nov 07, 2011 6:10 pm

Hello,
I see a lot of T60P type 2007-YS3 for sale on eBay. I would like to know how old those Thinkpad are and if they would be a good upgrade from a T42P.
PS: I am not into gaming.

Thank you in advance.

I would prefer such a machine very much over any of the T4x generation. Here are the Specs for the 2007-YS3 as found on support.lenovo.com/en_US via the "Use Quick Path" search form:

Code: Select all

ThinkPad T60p (2007-YS3)
Based on 2007-CTO: T7600(2.33GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15in
1400x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5250, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg
wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, 9c Li-Ion,
WinXP Pro
While i don't really like those powerful graphic cards in any T60 due to the fan noise usually associated with them, these are really nice specs! The CPU is rather potent and the 15" screen will be one of the wonderful BOE Hydis Flexview variants. Hopefully the screen is not too dark yet due to its age.

EDIT: No idea about the age of the machine, but it will have approximately some four years of age. Judging by the CPU it is equipped with, it must be one of the latest machines produced at the end of the production period of the T60 generation. Would be nice if someone with some real knowledge in these matters could either confirm or correct my poor time estimation.

No. All of these have LG Phillips LCDs. A bunch of them went through my hands *before* they flooded feebay...the build dates are mostly summer of 2007.

That being said, these are very nice machines. I used one of them as a base for the "ultimate" (in my book) T60p.

Thanks for pointing that out! As you made me remember, BOE Hydis only did the UXGA displays, but not the SXGA+ ones for these T60 machines. I have corrected my former message accordingly.

BOE-Hydis appear in the T60 HMM as one of the two suppliers (along with LG-Philips) for the SXGA+ IPS LCD. But I have yet to hear from anyone who claims to have actually witnessed a Hydis-made 15" SXGA+ IPS. :?

I just bought one of these and it is in great shape. No defects but the screen is alittle bit dark. I just bought another screen from someone here on the forum.
Another thing that I just noticed today. The palmrest and the LCD back both have "R" series under the think pad so I guess parts have been replaced.

More likely just the stickers, since lids and palmrests are not swappable between T6x and R6x units.

I received my Thinkpad T60P 2007-YS3 today. I paid just over $200 with S&H (3days), it is in pristine condition, like new. The hard drive is a 160GB 7200 rpm, the screen is a bright 15" 1400x1050 LCD LG Phillips, 512 MB ATi FireGL V5250, 2 x1GB RAM, Dual Layer DVD Recordable - DVDRW+/- OS Windows XP SP3 loaded.
The all deal is cover with a free 90 days warranty.
It was a great deal and I have no regret to abandon my T42P now.

Actually, many of the T60p machines and also the T60 with 15" SXGA+ have IDTECH panels. They are the same parts that were supplied with T43p and T42p, except the FRU is different and the configuration chip (eeid) if flashed to contain the info needed for the T60 series.

The screen is in fact a little yellowish or greyish and not too bright compare to my T60 with the same resolution. Is the only remedy to replace the screen? I took pictures next to each other and it is obvious.

On the bottom, after the TYPE and S/N you will find the production date in the form YY/MM, e.g. 07/03 meaning 2007/March.

That's an aging backlight right there, and the yellowness that goes with it is extremely common on LG Phillips screens used on T4x/R5x and T60/p lineups.

New screen, or a backlight swap. Pick your poison, so to speak.

$200 is really good deal. Care to share the ebay seller info?

There's a boatload of 2007-YS3 units on feebay right now, just throw "T60p" into the search and you'll come up with 3-4 sellers that offer them on regular basis, and have brought the prices down tremendously...

Boy am I happy I don't have a single one left... :D
