Hi, Just bought t61 and installed w7 64bit (i know now..). It is working quite okay, but i could not fiqure out what are these two devices? Device manager, Device. In fact, those are one and same device twice. I read something about device showing twice, but that driver did not cure my problem.

Win7 64bit
Installed chipset drivers and others came from windows update.

BTW: I could not determine what is fastest cpu possible to install to my mobo, by using middelton bios? Hopefully fast cpu will make youtube 720p atleast watchable...

Ps: Tried to install system update and it couldt run. Said something weird about user account etc

According to the device and vendor IDs, this is the Ricoh card reader. Try getting the Vista driver from here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/researc ... MIGR-67853

The vist 64 bit drivers work for the card reader, but the install program may not. After you execute the program, it will copy the drivers to c:\drivers, then go to device manager and update the drivers for each, directing it to look at that specific location.

On one of them, you'll have to point it directly at the 64bit subfolder or it won't work, but that should solve your problem.

As far as CPUs, you can upgrade to the T9500 (2.6ghz), but they aren't cheap, so you might want to consider the T9300 (2.5ghz) or the T7700 (2.4ghz).

Edit: Your system is a Meron CPU. You can use the middleton bios to avoid the thermal error a Penryn (T8xx/T9xx) cpu will generate, but you won't have full Penryn support.

Any cpu should be able to watch any youtube video, if you cannot, then it's an internet connection problem, not a computer problem.

As for system update, sounds like your trying to update your system from a limited user account, you need to log into an administrator account, then you should be fine, but system update cannot fix your card reader drivers, the rest will update fine though.

Ok. I'll try to install card read drivers. What I meant about yotube, was hd youtube. GMA x3100's performance just ain't enough for that. Internet connection is not the case here. What I found yesterday evening, was that I was not alone with system update error. But good thing to hear that it's not needed to.

What did you mean by not full penryn support ? Some cpu gizmo's wont work ?

Are you sure it's not the internet connection? It's easy to check - if the video loading bar is stuck, it's the connection. If it's loaded well enough in advance, but the video is stuttering, it's the PC.

I've successfully watched HD videos on T60s with T7200 and GMA950. The CPU itself is strong enough. Maybe Youtube's codecs are different, though?

I can easily watch any youtube on my Intel t61.

Send me a link to one that doesn't work and I'll try it and let you know.

The problem using a Penryn chip on a Meron board is one of the thermal circuts doesn't work. The bios fix disables the warning, it doesn't correct the problem.

Here is few urls:

Before those video test' I installed directx end user runtimes.
Found out that as soon as video is loaded fully, video starts to play as it will. As long as video is loading simultaneously, I can only see let's say 5-10 frames per sec. It doesn't matter is it full screen or not. All videos loaded all the way in few seconds, except first. All videos have screen refresh vs fps fail, but that's another story.
I ran couple internet speed tests, here's the results:

Hmm. I just un ticked "use hw acceleration" at flash settings. And suddenly after few days, videos plays okay even when loading at same time. Well. you never know then

That will do it. The hardware accelleration is only a good idea if you have a powerful graphics processor like the nVidia, so should be disabled in this case.

Glad you sorted it out, I'll keep this in mind next time I see a similar problem with an Intel system.

Yeah. Cpu usage is still high, ofcourse. I'm still balancing between of buying used faster cpu or not
