T60 wakes up from suspend when laptop is moved

I have a T60 that I bought used about a year ago, and it has worked pretty well since then. In the last few weeks, I have had a problem with the laptop waking up from suspend on its own. I have the machine set to suspend when Fn+F4 is pressed, and it is then supposed to wake up when the lid is opened. Recently it has been waking up sporadically while the lid is closed. It seems to wake up while I am carrying it in my backpack, and I don't think it happens when it is sitting flat and motionless on a desk. This leads me to believe that the lid switch wiring went bad somehow. This is problematic because I can no longer carry the machine in a backpack while it is suspended, so I now have to shut it down completely to move it around. Not a huge problem, but I'd like to fix it if possible.

The only idea I have is to try to disable the lid switch, though I'm not sure how to do that. Does anyone have a better suggestion for how to fix it, or how to do more troubleshooting to identify the problem, or can anyone tell me how to go about disabling the switch?

I am running Ubuntu 10.10, this is the only OS installed, and the only OS that has been installed since I bought the laptop.

Thanks for any assistance.

The lid switch is a (normally invisible) magnetic one.

Thanks for the link. I've read through that thread, unfortunately it doesn't seem to help me with my problem. I removed both the body bezel and the display bezel on my machine, and I don't see anything that looks like a reed switch or a magnet on either. The problem that I have is not that the lid switch fails to function at all, but rather that it normally works as it should, and occasionally triggers when it should not. Because of that, it seems unlikely to me that any parts are missing (as seems to be the case in the thread you linked). Is it possible that my model has a lid switch in a different location? I can't see anything resembling a switch anywhere, so I'm kind of at a loss. I can post photos if it would help.

When I started this thread, I forgot to mention that I have a 14.1" T60, not the 15" that seems to be the default model used in the service videos here (http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/io ... index.html). Is the lid switch different on the 14.1" model for some reason?

Thanks for the help.

edit: I found the switch, it's on the inverter board just under the LCD, labeled "U2" on my machine. The magnet is inside a small square on the bottom of the keyboard bezel. So I'm glad to know where the switch is, but I don't quite understand why it suddenly started triggering sporadically when the machine is moved. Has no one else experienced this problem?
