T60 heatsink/fan

#1 Post by MurrayShafiroff » Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:16 pm

Could someone tell me if there are multiple PN's or FRU's for the heatsink/fan for the t60 15.4" widescreen (model 6370-A49) with integrated intel graphics?
The HMM only lists the 41W6408.

Thank you

This does not answer your question, though my T61 fan stopped making an annoying noise after I put three drops of bike oil inside it. I thought I was going to replace it, but not it acts as new.
Thanks to Debian Linux my T61 is still kicking in 2015.

Murray:

Although this may not be the definite (yes/no) answer: According to System service parts - ThinkPad T60, T60p (6369, 6370, 6371, 6372, 8741, 8742, 8743, 8744) Wide screen models ("Last Updated: 31 May 2011") the 41W6408 is the only fan listed for 6370-all models... this is also mentioned in this post.

What is the reason for asking... is the 41W6408 e.g. unavaible?

You might also consider that you can buy the fan motor assembly only, for about $12 shipped on ebay. If your patient when you remove the old one, you can reused enough of the foil tame to get a good seal, and if need be, some automotive grade RTV silicone sealer will fill any gaps that the tape doesn't seal.

Subsequent update:
In the thread T60 Heatsink/Fans, MurrayShafiroff wrote:In investigating heatsink/fans for a T60 Intel Graphics, found there was only one FRU -the 41W6408. Took a look at the 41W6405 (called out in the T60 with ATI discreet GPU. The difference in price is dramatic. The 41W6408 is 3 times the price of the 41W6405; the only difference being the 6405 covers the GPU as well as the core chip set. In the Intel graphics modes it just sits over empty space, while the Core Chip heatsink seems to lay pretty flat against the chip (with the aluminum retaining bracket attached.

Hope this helps those T60 owners with Intel graphics.
