First Post.. I picked up a T60 Windows XP Pro and I can't get it to boot in safe mode. I've tried hitting F8, F11 and all the others with no luck. When I press the the thinkvantage button it boots to bios setup mode but I can't figure out how to get it in Safe Mode. This computer had a unknow user and when it was removed it will not let you login as administrator. You get the msg "system could not log you on, make sure user name & domain are correct".
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Reinstall Windows from scratch, you don't want somebody else's leftovers.

Re: T60 Can't boot in Safe Mode
I didn't get the recovery cd's with the unit so I was hoping to figure out how to get in Safe mode if anyone knows. I could borrow a XP pro cd and reinstall using the codes on this laptop if that would work. I'm a novice and wasn't sure if you had to use a specific thinkpad version of the os. I have a cd labeled windows xp pro upgrade includes service pack 2 (borrowed from a friend who installed this on a dell desktop) . Would I be able to do a clean install with this cd and use codes on the bottom of the laptop?RealBlackStuff wrote:Reinstall Windows from scratch, you don't want somebody else's leftovers.
He also has a cd label Windows XP Pro version 2002 for dist. with a new pc only the coa should be attached to your pc, It is probably the original for his desktop.
Thanks in advance
Paul
Re: T60 Can't boot in Safe Mode
The "upgrade" versions are a PIA, so I'd avoid them, but the other is an OEM disc and "should" work, as long as you both have the same version of XP.
You may have to call microsoft to activate it after install.
If your still stuck, then send me a photo as proof you have a valid COA, and paypal me enough to cover the costs of burning and mailing and disc and I'll send you one that will install without any of these headaches.
However, it sounds like you have everything you need already.
ps. If you don't have a valid COA, I have a post in the marketplace for winXP and for Vista, they are for sale cheap, or trade for anything of similar value.
