T60 screen with a pinkish hue

#1 Post by portsample » Sat Dec 03, 2011 3:53 pm

(Moderator edit; split from http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=100877& )

One last item: The T60 screen that I've swapped in has a pinkish hue to it.

Typically, are CCFL lamps an integral component of an new LCD (SXGA+) or are they separate? How easy are CCFLs to replace?

How bad is the hue? Is it something you only notice in comparison to another, bluer screen?

My 14" SXGA+ T60 screen has been replaced at some point from a Samsung panel to a TMD (I think) panel. The latter was more pinkish, while the former was bluish. I noticed it immediately, but it was clearly not a faulty panel/backlight, but rather just different calibration.

It is definitely pink...most so at start-up, then it looks fairly normal when warmed up, although my T43 screen is way brighter in comparison. The seller has offered a full refund for the screen, however I think I may keep this unit as I am intrigued with the T60 lid on my T61 base. I've got a T20 that had been pink for several years now w/out dying as yet. The T60 lid is *about* 1mm thinner than the T61 lid and the overall laptop feels lighter with it. I also like the idea of having Bluetooth capability which came with it. The T61 lid however is stiffer and probably provides better protection than the T60 lid. I did manage to crack a bezel on a 760ed over a decade ago by stuffing the unit into a duffel bag too tightly, (or maybe the duffel got smunched during transit). The reinforced lid might have prevented damage from this abuse.

Question: Is there a hands down preference regarding the brand of replacement for SXGA+ screens?

Yes, this is definitely a CCFL problem. :)

For 14" SXGA+, I'm not sure there is. But maybe someone else has information?
