dear all,
glad to find this forum!
i am a first time owner of a "new" refurbished, Lenovo Thinkpad. it's the T60p, submodel 2007-8hu. pretty much loving it except i struggle sometimes using the touchpad on the internet - definitely different than using a mouse! (is it normal to crash alot when you start?)
anyway, my question is, my backup dvds from my other computer do not all work in the drive of my "new" Thinkpad. i want to replace the "bad" backups with new ones and would like to know what cd & dvd formats (& media IDs if possible) are compatible with my Thinkpad drive.
the drive is a Matshita UJDA775. it is a CDRW/DVD Rom combo drive.
i already called Lenovo tech support in Atlanta and they have no info about it (it's not even listed in their system). i also checked the Panasonic website and couldn't find anything. i also called Panasonic and somehow ended up in the TV dept. (!) & they told me Panasonic does not have an optical drive dept!
any suggestions how i can find out what media is compatible with this drive?
thanks in advance.
Supported Media in T60P for Matshita Drive?

Re: Supported Media in T60P for Matshita Drive?
Any cdrom or dvdrom disc should work fine in it, but since this drive does not burn dvd discs, any burned dvdr or dvdrw discs you have will need to be finalized before a dvdrom drive can read them. Other formats such as dvdram will probably not work at all.
If you want to replace it with a DVD multi burner, I have one and would be willing to offer it to you at a reasonable price, send me a PM if your interested.
As for the crashing, I'm not sure what you mean. As far as the mouse goes, most users prefer to use the trackpoint on the internet, and if the touchpad gets in your way, you can disable it, or adjust it's sensitivity in control panel. You can also connect an external mouse if you prefer.

Re: Supported Media in T60P for Matshita Drive?
Welcome to thinkpads.com!
You should be able to get the capabilities of this drive by downloading DVDInfoPro from here:
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Currently, it looks like this program is being offered with a free 14-day trial. I've used an earlier version to determine what disk format a drive supports and to test the drive.
You should also post the FRU number that's on the drive as that can also be used to determine what you have. Thinkwiki says this about the UJDA775:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Ultrabay_ ... o_II_Drive (problems reported with DVD+ formats)
Googling the UJDA775 part number, it looks like a standard CDRW/DVD drive that read and writes CDs and only reads DVD. Amazon.com says it supports DVD-ROM, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, yet the datasheet I found here:
https://app.infopia.com/prime11729/imag ... JDA775.pdf
says nothing about the DVD RW formats, which seems to backup what Thinkwiki has.
