Hello all, I just scooped up a t60 refurb on newegg for 250 bucks with a docking station.

I've read the forums for a bit looking at all the tweaks and things. I've come to understand that the t2400 processor can be upgraded to a t7200 at the most and that this would also lower the temperatures as well.
The T7200 being the Core 2 Duo and not a Core Duo processor that comes in it correct?
IE.

Is it also possible to upgrade to a mobo with firegl or would there be another recommended upgraded graphics option?

If you wanted such upgrades, you could have bought one (incl. those upgrades) here on the forum for similar money...
Largest C2D CPU available on the T60 is the T7600, but T7200 is the best bang for your buck.
If you don't need that much horsepower, but still want a Core 2 Duo for a 64-bit OS, look at the CPUs in the Intel T5000 series (only those with 667MHz FSB).

The (integrated Intel) graphics cannot be updated, unless you buy a new motherboard with ATI graphics (X1300,X1400 or FireGL5200/FireGL5250.
Having a 15" screen, you can update your current XGA to SXGA or UXGA, both in IPS quality.
And you can build a Frankenpad with a T61 motherboard that allows up to 8GB RAM.
Hope you have lots of money...

Yes, but no 1 year warranty.

Oh thanks, someone just posted a batch of T7200's for 1 dollar on ebay.

Checking the part numbers and surfing around the cheapest I've seen is ~30 dollars for a inverter and 125+ for the screen. Is that reasonable. I have not checked the market place here yet.

It is much cheaper to buy a T60p with T7600, take the parts you want, put together a laptop you want (like 15" UXGA IPS screen, with FireGL V5200 mobo and T7600) and then put together another machine from the leftover parts and sell that one. If you're lucky, you get the parts basically "free" if you don't count the time you spent buying, assembling and selling. I don't because it's a hobby.

I have a board with fireGL 5250 and a T7600 cpu if your interested, but I agree with the posts that you should have bought a complete system. Odds are you won't need the warranty, and if it's an aftermarket warranty, like "square trade" for example, it's not worth very much anyway because if your system dies and you send it to be fixed, they wont actually fix it, unless it's something very simple, they'll just pay you the purchase price and sell the unit to recoop some of their costs, you'll lose all upgrades invested as well as any data you have on it.
Why buy a warranty for a $200 item anyway... it is just bad financial decision, if it dies, just fix it, or buy another and recoup what you can from the parts.
