Temp Sensor Problems?

Okay so I've got an older ThinkPad T60p 8744-J2U with the ATI FireGL graphics card, widescreen, etc. I recently cleaned it out and replaced the thermal pad they ship the thinkpads out with some AS5. Its been running awesome!
The only problem is that just this morning, it started to shut off randomly on me. Completely randomly. No graphics intense work, CPU intensive work, anything. Just stalking facebook. And when I tried to first start it up, all of the power/HDD/battery/charger light flashed on then just shut off again. I tried hitting the power button again, same result. So I leave it sit for a while. I come back to it later, it boots up. Its running for a while, and just to keep an eye on things and make sure its not a over heat issue, I open tpfancontrol (program that controls the thinkpad's fan speed and also shows various temperatures). As I was watching it, I noticed that the PWR heat sensor was WAY high for being PWR. Other times ive looked at that temperature its been in the high 30's - low 40's. This time it was up in the 70's! So instead of going back and doing things, I watched it for a bit. After a minute or so of watching it, within a few seconds the temperature sky rocketed to 100 degrees C and the laptop shut off! I felt around the laptop to see how hot it actually was, and there was no way any part of that laptop had gotten to 100 degrees C. I tried booting it back up, same result before with the lights.
Now my question is, what is causing this? My charger? My battery? Is there anyway I can fix this without replacing the mobo?
BTW: BIOS is updated to latest, running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, 100gb 7200RPM HDD, 3gb ram, 2ghz Core 2 Duo
