Screen problem diagnosis

#1 Post by Marf » Fri Jan 20, 2012 6:05 pm

Over the past coupla days my screen has started doing this

Image

Moving the screen back and forth on the hinges will make it go back to normal, but it keeps happening. I've checked the connection to the motherboard and that is fine, is the screen on its way out or could the connector inside the screen have come loose? I've not taken the screen apart yet to check it.

I'm fine with tearing the machine down, so if anyone has had the same problem and knows what the fix is please post up and I'll order up the parts and get my screwdriver out!

Thanks

Marf

You can check on a loose cable on the back of the LCD, but more likely these are faulty column- or row-drivers.
Nothing you can do, other than replacing the LCD.

I agree with rbs, definitely check the cable, if the tape isn't holding it secure it could be loose, but more then likely you'll need a new screen.

What model and screen type/size do you have?

Thanks guys. I'll strip the screen and check the cable to be sure.

It's a T60p with a 15.4" WSXGA+

I've seen the screens on eBay for between £70-100

Just dismantled the screen and the connector popped out before I'd even touched it, so I think that may have been the problem.

Re-attached and reassembled, hopefully thats solve it!

At the moment I have a huge surplus of these screens and would sell them at half this price, if interested. Shipping from usa to uk would be higher, but I'm sure it would still be considerably cheaper, but hopefully you just need to reattach your cable, and perhaps a dab of adhesive on the tape that holds the connector engaged.

Hi Tuus, as per my post above the issue seems resolved, but if my panel does fail I will definitely bear you in mind for the replacement :)

That's definitely good news, if only all these stories had such happy endings :)
