ThinkPad T61 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD refresh rate

I recently bought the t61.

I set the screen resolution to 1680 x 1050 , 32 bit , and the monitor to 60 hertz. It is quite painful on my eyes - meaning i get a headache. I had a t43 running 1400 x 1050 and it was fine. I don't know what the refresh rate was because i never had to futz with it.

What setting should i try running to relieve the pain on my eyes. There is a checkbox that says hide modes that the monitor cannot display. If I uncheck that i can run the monitor at 100 hz. is that really going to run 100hz?

any solutions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

You could try bumping up the DPI. That'll make stuff bigger, though if you're running XP, some fonts are hard coded and won't adjust. Which T43 did you have?

I did set it to 120 dpi.

I had the t43 - 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon X300.

I think it has to do with the refresh rate. Do i need special drivers for the LCD?

LCD panels on most laptops (maybe all, I never know with new stuff anymore) run at 60Hz. CRT monitors tend to clear up at a higher refresh (75 - 85 I used).

Make sure that 60Hz has definitely stuck, I know my T410 will drop to 50Hz on battery which really drives me insane!

CRT monitor flicker at too low of a refresh rate, but this does not apply to LCD monitors. The closest equivalent to a refresh rate on an LCD monitor is its frame rate, which is often locked at 60 frame/s. But this is rarely a problem, because the only part of an LCD monitor that could produce CRT-like flicker—its backlight—typically operates at around 200 Hz.

I don't think it's a frame rate issue (but what do I know?), there might be something else wrong with the display. It's hard to tell without actually looking at it.

I have several of these LCDs and don't have the problem your referring to. Is it possible there is something wrong with the LCD?

Do you have access to another laptop with a wsxga screen?
