How can I extract a Windows 7 iso file to DVD?

I have a T61, 32bit Vista OS with 4GB memory.
I am in the process of upgrading my OS from Vista to Windows 7. (I will be doing a clean install)
I have a windows 7 iso file. How can I extract that to a DVD? I tried 7-zip & MagicISO, but didn't know how to do it.

I am guessing I extract the file to DVD, then restart machine and boot from DVD, (to start installing Win7), correct?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Please inform about how or from where you obtained the ISO-file that is causing you these problems?

PS: Try keep your questions about the same issue in one thread (with reference to your question in Upgrading from Vista to Win 7) - we don't allow cross posting on this forum.

Thanks!

Johan

Yes, that is correct. (The correct way to state it is not that you want to "extract the file to DVD", but rather to "create a DVD from the .iso image file".) Use ImgBurn To create a bootable DVD from the .iso image file -- it is free, and it is one of the easiest and most reliable ways to create bootable media from a bootable image file. Here it is:

You definitely don't want to extract the .iso, if you do, the disc won't be bootable. An .iso is a disc image file, not a compressed archive.

I too recommend ImgBurn, or you can use any disc burning software. use the option "write image file to disc" with imgburn, burn the disc at the slowest speed your burner/discs support, and don't use the computer while the disc is burning, in fact, you're best to disconnect from the internet and close all programs, especially if you have a setup disc with unattended install. Spending a few extra mins burning the disc right can save you many hours of wasted time by avoiding read errors on install.

Good Luck

The "official" way to do it, is to use the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. It does not matter how you sourced the "file.iso". This tool will write your Windows 6.iso file to a writable DVD.

I downloaded a program called PowerISO. Download and install it.

Open the program and then open the W7 ISO file with PowerISO.

Insert a blank DVD and click the burn button.

Select speed (slower the better), and 15 minutes later you have a bootable W7 disk.

This is how I usually go about creating bootable OS disks.
