BIOS settings for T61p with latest middleton update

#1 Post by radekpletka » Tue Feb 07, 2012 2:10 am

I have T61p, which I just updated to 2.29-1.08 and expected increase in HD speed.
I run CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 before
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 (C) 2007-2010 hiyohiyo
Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]

Sequential Read : 56.444 MB/s
Sequential Write : 51.509 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 33.678 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 39.012 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 0.614 MB/s [ 150.0 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 1.330 MB/s [ 324.6 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 1.082 MB/s [ 264.1 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 1.376 MB/s [ 335.8 IOPS]

Test : 50 MB [C: 86.6% (398.7/460.3 GB)] (x5)
Date : 2012/02/06 22:38:27
OS : Windows XP Professional SP3 [5.1 Build 2600] (x86)

and after:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 (C) 2007-2010 hiyohiyo
Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]

Sequential Read : 20.558 MB/s
Sequential Write : 26.935 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 14.423 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 34.646 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 0.458 MB/s [ 111.7 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.645 MB/s [ 157.5 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 0.969 MB/s [ 236.5 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 1.204 MB/s [ 293.9 IOPS]

Test : 50 MB [C: 86.6% (398.7/460.3 GB)] (x5)
Date : 2012/02/06 23:22:07
OS : Windows XP Professional SP3 [5.1 Build 2600] (x86)

and although the boot time seemed faster, the after results are
much slower.
What I am doing wrong?
Please advice

load bios, press f9 to load defaults, then f10 to save and exit.

Now power off, unplug power and battery to be sure, then reboot and retest, then report.

ps. You will only see a noticeable difference if using a fast SSD, with a platter drive it won't make much difference, and in order to take advantage of the SSD speed you'd need to upgrade your windows version too. Vista will do nicely if you don't want to purchase Seven.

Will do.
Right now the main drive is 500G 7200RPM Hitachi
the SSD (80G Intel 320) is in $13.95 enclosure in dvd bay,
and 2T is an external USB connected drive.
I have W7 installed on SSD, so I will swap the drives and put SSD as a boot drive and
repost the numbers. I got the SSD for $80 after rebate from Newegg, at this price I had to try it (smile)

In the ultrabay drive you won't even get SATA1 speed, the bay only supports Pata speeds.

When you have the SATA installed properly you should see a sharp increase in performance.
