Question about T60p, Advanced Dock and Video Card...

Hi… I need your advice…
Lately I got involved with Video Editing program Cyberlink Power Director 10, but my computer does not seem to be up to the task, hardware-wise…(though it does satisfy min. requirements for 2D rendering and that’s all I need…)
I’ve got T60p, T7200, 2.00Ghz, 3GB Ram, Intel 120GB SSD, Win7pro-32bit sitting most of the time on Advanced Dock.
My question is – Can I boost video performance of my laptop (docked) by installing a really good Video Card in PCI-Express slot of my Advanced Dock? .…
…In other words will this extra Video Card help Graphics Adapter on my T60p to perform better?, or will it take over my internal Graphics Adapter? or it will work for external monitors only?
If Yes, what card? ( I understand it have to be Express and low profile to fit in a small space), but what other compatibility issues I have to be aware of?
(Wiki on their ThinkPad Advanced Dock web-page recommends Radeon X1300 PCI-e 256MB, but this card seems to be quite low-performance…)
Is this a good idea?, or there is a better way to improve video performance short of buying a new computer?…
I appreciate your input.
Thanks, Alex.
