T61, Windows 7, SoundMAX -- no microphone and no audio

I attempted to do a voice-over powerpoint using Adobe's Presenter 7's interface add-on to MS Powerpoint (MS Office 2010). Adobe Presenter is not receiving any signal from my self-powered microphone attached to microphone jack.

I placed a music CD in the DVD/CD drive. The Sound Mixer from Windows 7 Control Panel recognizes the audio signal from DVD/CD drive, but no sound comes from speakers. Also, no sound comes from headphone jack.

I have "googled" SoundMAX and Windows 7. Other forums have stated that Windows Vista SoundMAX drivers are not recognized by Windows 7.
