T60 Hinge screw problem

#1 Post by Magliter » Sun Feb 26, 2012 10:50 pm

My t60, on the right side(by the DVD drive) was loose, what I usually do is screw the hinge tight

Now the screw or any of the same size will not fit at all, it's stripped I guess, what's the best way in fixing this?

Ghetto solution: Try to insert a thicker screw!
Smart Solution: Get a new pai of hinges - they will keep your screen tight for a looooong period of time! :thumbs-UP:

if the screw's not coming it, it's the hinge, as in the metal part right

i have to take it apart and check for sure but if it is, any 14.1" t60 hinge thats working great can be used as a replacement right??

I believe they have the right and left side are difference, since the left hinge is thicker on the t61 models.

As for a quick fix, you can try some of that caulk tape they use on plumbing and wrap it around the screw as a filler until you get a replacement.

Sorry, I mis-read your post.

If it's any help, I took a photo of my t61 and t60 right hinges next to each other. They seem to look the same.

This problem seems odd since there is an upper and lower screw that holds the hinge, so if your screw was needing to be tightened and this actually made the hinges feel tighter, then your top screw must be loose or missing completely. In most cases when a hinge is loose, it's not the screws at fault, so I'd take a careful look at what's going on here... because something doesn't add up, but before you take it apart, get a new set of hinges and screws and do the job right. They are very cheap.

Good luck
