Fan issues/thermal sensors
Fan issues/thermal sensors
Hello, recently I purchased a second-hand t61. I noticed that the Mini PCI thermal sensor triggers the CPU fan on. When the Mini PCI sensor reaches 44 degrees celsius, the fan starts spining even though the CPU temperature is 38-42 degrees. I tried disabling Wi-Fi (Intel 4965) and 3G (Sierra Wireless), but the Mini PCI sensors eventually reaches 44 degrees and the fan kicks in. Is it a normal behaviour and is it normal temperature for the mini PCI sensor?!
Re: Fan issues/thermal sensors
My PCI temp is about the same. But your CPU temp seems really low. The CPU should run 50-60 C.
Re: Fan issues/thermal sensors
that is not true, and is highly dependable on your fan profile. I can make my CPU to idle at 55-60 deg C, as well as I can make it idle at below 40 deg C. It is also dependable on the type of the CPU, as penryn chips run cooler.moltar wrote:My PCI temp is about the same. But your CPU temp seems really low. The CPU should run 50-60 C.
kopchev, brato, it all normal as the fan speed is not entirely dependable on the CPU temperature but rather on temperature reported from different parts inside the laptop.
P.S. It looks like it might be kind of chilly in your room though, lol.

Re: Fan issues/thermal sensors
Here is a screenshot with my t61's temperatures:

The CPU temp is low, because the fan runs 90% of the time, triggered by the Mini PCI sensor. So I don't know what to do... When I use TPFanControl and ignore the PCI sensor, the PCI temperature goes up to 48-9 degrees which can be felt at the botom of the t61, under the touchpad. I don't know if PCI temps of 48-50 degrees are safe...

Re: Fan issues/thermal sensors
Does your mini-PCI temperature ever go past 43 degrees?
