IAUX14 15" UXGA from A31p in T60?

#1 Post by JeffCullen » Tue Mar 13, 2012 2:34 pm

I have a chance to get my hands on a pristine A31p for peanuts, and am wondering if anyone has any clue if the IAUX14 (IDTech, formerly DBU) contained therein (FRU 05K9967) could be rejiggered to work in a T60? I imagine some EDID trickery would be involved.

Thoughts?

(not aborting on the SXGA+ FrankNpad build I'm currently doing, just thinking of stockpiling this for the future to do another...)

These screens are physically thicker than the later ones used in T4x/T6x, so you'd have to extend the LCD cable or lose the ThinkLight.

There is no EDID chip on these screens, so I'm not quite sure what getting one to work in a T6x would entail.

Good luck.

Thought it might make a fun project, but sounds like more trouble than its worth. Perhaps if i'm going to build another one for myself, I should go whole hog with QXGA anyway :D

Thanks for your response!

I managed to get an A31p IDTech 15" LCD into the lid of a T43p.
I had to fold the LCD cable and cut/extend the Thinklight cable/film.
It was an extremely tight fit.
AFAIK the T60 lid is thinner than a T4x lid, so I doubt that the A31p LCD will fit in that T60 lid.

It might have to take a custom LCD cable for it to work.
I had an A31 LCD monitor that was dim that I tried replacing the CCFL from a 14" widescreen T400.
Anyways, I had a T60 opened up and tried the firct LCD cable I could find.
It doesn't produce a signal to the LCD, the inverter wont even fire up the CCFL either, plus that panel is impossible to see with a flashlight behind it.
I tried it again while having the CCFL being powered by an A31P, it lights up but there isn't a signal from the T60, so the pin out contacts must be different or the signal just doesn't work.

Also the 14" Widescreen CCFL almost fits in an 15" A31 LCD panel, I shoulda drilled holes on the frame that snaps into the LCD because the CCFL wider by 2 millimeters and I snapped it while trying to put it back on.
I had forgotten to do so, even when I slightly cut the soft rubber tissue on the edges of the CCFL it wasn't enough.

I think it might be slightly dimmer, didn't try messing with the brightness, the CCFL is smaller than the A31.
