Latest Release 265 Series Nvidia Drivers for Lenovo T61p?

#1 Post by eecon » Sun Mar 18, 2012 1:18 am

I ran 3DMark06 this evening on my T9300 T61p and got my usual 4460 Benchmark Score .... however, the benchmark's results page today lists a newer Nvidia Quadro FX notebook series driver available for my WinXP 32-bit system directly from Nvidia.

At the Nvidia site it looks like it's Nvidia's Verde Notebook Release 265 Series v266.58 WQHL Certified display driver, released in January 2011, which claims support for notebooks with Quardro FX 570M graphics.

The Nvidia download site is found here:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

I selected from the Nvidia Menu:

Quadro, then
Quadro FX Series (notebooks), then
Quardro FX 570M, then
Quardro Graphics Driver, (from a choice of 5 different drivers for different scenarios), then
Windows XP, then
English, then
Search

Anyone out there try this yet?

Product Current Installed Driver Latest Driver Update

NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M 266.58

Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.

Been running that driver for at least a month on my T61P. No problems.

Thanks .... Are you running Win7, Vista or WinXP and did you first completely remove the Lenovo drivers and then install the Series 265 driver in Safe Mode?

Winx9 32 bit. I found out about the new driver when I installed freemake video converter and that program prompted me to go to the nvidia website for the latest driver. I did nothing for the install other than download the new version from the nvidia website and ran it. Did not uninstall first. Did not use safe mode. Took a gamble and it worked!

Winx9? Presume you meant Winxp.

Are you using any non-3D Office programs like Word and Excel?

Are they working okay also?

BTW, have you run a 3DMark06 Benchmark yet?

Also, which CPU processor do you have?

Thanks :thumbs-UP:

I'll clone a HDD drive of my WinXP system (including Office 2003) to use as test-mule HDD and give it a try .... worst that can happen is I crash the test HDD .... no biggy.

Thanks :thumbs-UP:

Hi, I have a T61p 14 in. 4:3 T7500 and the dreaded fx570m

I downloaded the lastest Nvidia driver last week. The 296.70 performance driver. No good benchmark software at this time but I will tell you I'm getting 50-60 frames in Crysis on low settings and 30-40 frames in Half-life 2 in high settings. I have nothing else to compare this to, but I'm impressed so far. I did clean the heatsink and fan and reseat it with some artic silver 5 and running TP Fan Control per some advice from TuuS. With Fan Control on BIO the system idles around 42. Under gaming load (Crysis) temps run about 60-70. Any advice for better cooling or performance would be welcomed.

Your idle cooling looks almost too cool (I'm jealous) and any heavy 3D gaming temps under 75°C are great .... Can you elaborate more on your specific fan control settings and your specific operating system?

Also, I believe the 14" T61p FX570M units only have 128MB of video ram as compared to the 15.1 WS T61p FX570M units with 256MB, so you may not be able to compare apples with apples exactly, but take a look anyway at this thread for more info including both my Win7 32-bit and WinXP 32-bit Futuremark 3DMark06 benchmarks using their one step older 265.35 Performance driver.

Here you go:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-pri ... 621#M63451

Have a run at 3DMark06 and let us know what you get .... thanks.

Downloaded 3Dmark06. Got a wimpy score of 2802 with the 296.70 driver :( , but going to try again after turning off some bloatware. The closest match for the 265.35 I could find was a 266.35. Is this a driver you want me to benchmark? I am running XP 32 bit, and TPfancontrol V0.21 active=2 but I checked the BIOS radio button. While crusing the web and writing this reply the system is at 48c.
speaking of bloatware, how much of this IBM stuff is unnessary, or could be set for a manual launch.
