T60 Indicator LED issue

#1 Post by VanniX » Wed Mar 21, 2012 1:50 pm

Hi, this is my first post.
First of all sorry for my english, i'm italian and in italy there isn't any forum about thinkpads :(

And now.. This is my "thinkpad story":
I bought this used T60 in a exhibition, the seller told me that the notebook has been dropped, and they replaced hdd (i have also the old hdd, and it seem to working..), he also told me that the LED indicator on the LCD cover were not working. I bought it without OS, and i don't knew the hardware configuration, but i needed a cheap and reliable laptop, so i choose an IBM.
The model is a T60 2007-CTO (T2400, WIFI abg, BT, ATI X1300).
I completely disassembled and re-assembled the computer, cleaning all parts, and some LED starts to work again.
Now only "Bluetooth", "Caps Lock", "Power ON" and "AC Power" still not work.
The inverter and the fuses on the motherboard seem ok, the flat cable is not very worn.
Where could be the problem?

Sorry again for my english.
Thanks in advance.

It might be the inverter. I would try that next.

Re-check where the ribbon cables connect. Both the cable and the connector. Clean both real good. Let dry befroe assembling.

If these are the only ones that do not work, does the rest of the computer work fine? After trying a couple times,Just use it. The LEDs are nice but for the price of the laptop.

Good luck with it.

@richk:
As soon as I've the time for disasseble it again I'll try all LEDs singly, and I'll check the wires, following it on the PCB.

@Bill Z:
The rest of computer work fine... But I would like to have at least the "Caps Lock" and/or the "BT Status"..
If the problem is in the inveter i think i can repair it without problems.. I hope it isn't a problem of the flat cable, but I am starting to think so :(

As soon as possible I'll control the inverter PCB. I'll keep you informed.
Thanks again.

Nothing to do.. The inverter is OK, i tested all connections from the connector to the smd led.
Fuses on the M/B are ok.. But i can't test the flat cable, pins are too close, I hope to change it as soon as possible.

Anyway, thanks for the answer :)
