Optical Drive Ticking Clicking Noise

Following on from this thread I found a new, sealed 40Y8621 CDRW/DVD-ROM optical drive.

It seems to be working okay, but when reading discs (I'm using it to rip audio CDs at the moment) it's making a regular ticking/clicking noise and the drive light is flashing in time to the sound.

Does this indicate a problem with the drive? and if so could I claim under warranty, or would I be better off returning it to the seller?

You could try warranty, but that's doubtful, because who is giving the warranty?
Return it for a refund/replacement.
Used on eBay ca. £8.- shipped.
