Advanced Dock and Video Cards

#1 Post by moltar » Wed Apr 04, 2012 9:59 pm

Hi,

I just got a hold of an Advanced Dock. I want to add an external video card. Does anyone know if there are any dual DVI video cards that fit that slot? Also preferably with more memory than stock GPU (256MB).

Thanks!

Doesn't the Quadro NVS on the T61 support dual monitors?
I used to own one, I swear it does dual dvi. Maybe I'm wrong, it was a long time ago.

Do a search on the ATI V5200 series. Seems I recall those fitting into the dock slot.
Long cards won't fit in that thing, so you have to be careful what you use.

Thanks, got it on eBay for $50. Seems expensive, considering it's so old. But maybe it's because they are rare and in demand, just like t61p mobos? :)

there's limit on the throughput the dock can utilize, so you cant put more powerful video card in it and use its capabilities. Would have been solution to many thing though, but sadly it doesnt support fast transfers. As far as I remember, it's transfer rate is somewhere in the 38MB/s range. The only good thing about it is that you can use that old ATI card that can support 4 monitor setup, but it's GPU is too weak - I think somewhere in the 1700 3DMark06 score stock.

if you're only looking for dual monitor setup then all NVidia cards support it - one connected to the DVI and one to the VGA port on the dock.
