if swapping mobos is not an option..?

I've read posts about placing 4:3 14" T61(p) mobo into 4:3 15" T60(p) chasis.. Assuming that this is not an option what are possible combinations of swapping existing IPS panels into 14"/15" T6x(p), preferably from other A3x(p), T4x(p), R5x(p), R6x(p) machines originally equipped with IPS panel?

I've read successful story about 15" 4:3 T42/T43 display N150P3-L01 working after EDID reflash with 15" 4:3 T60p: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... P3#p663954

Any others?

thank you,
geos

The problem is...IPS panels only come in 15" 4X3, and no 15" 4X3 T61 machines were ever built. So if you want IPS without swapping motherboards, your only options are to get a 15" 4X3 machine.

Just curious, what model do you have now?

I have three of them: 15" T61p 6460-d8g, 15" T61 6460-D6G and 14" t60p 2008-87G (ie. 15" unfortunately, 15" unfortunately and 14" unfortunately...)

No IPS possible in any of those machines.

RealBlackStuff, that was cruel.. ;)

but back to the point. any recommendations for particular numbers for 15" T60(p) and 14" T61(p) if I'd like to buy a few more  to make perfect-and-without-problems mobo swap? 14" t61(p) fits 15" t60(p) but is the opposite also true? (operation: buy two, swap mobos, sell one t61(p) with t60(p) mobo inside)

thank you,

You can do the two-way swap, buy two computers and end up with two, but a T61 with a T60 board won't sell for much, probably about half what a similar T60 sells for, unless the person doesn't really understand what they are buying. The 4:3 aspect T61 units are rare and desireable because they are the only non-widescreen units that will support 8gb of ram and a Penryn CPU, but if you put a T60 board in it, you remove all that advantage so it's no better then a T60, perhaps worse because the frame has been cut and it no longer has a modem.

I'm not trying to discourage you from doing it, if you wanted to keep and use the computer, then I'd say go for it, but to do it with plans of selling it, you're probably going to be disappointed in what you're able to get for it after all that work. I considered doing the very same thing, but found the parts had much more value then the whole would have, so I only did the swap in one direction.

I will tell you that it's a great combination to put a T61 board in a T60 with IPS.

Thanks guys, you got me thinking and slow down a little. I'd better ask before I buy ;)
