T61 Bottom Plastic Removal Steps

#1 Post by hoax32 » Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:49 pm

OK - So i have ordered the new base plsatic frame for my t61.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380426900305?ss ... 1439.l2649

After watching the lenovo service training videos for the T61 over and over again, i found no point in disassembling everything else before remooving the bottom plastic!
Can i just remoove the screws that hold the botoom plastic to the magnesium frame or du I really have to remoove LCD, CPU heatsink, RAM, HDD, USB -Sub Card,.......

I appreciate any help!!!

Unfortunately you got to follow those steps. LCD structure has to definitely come off, fan. May be you can leave the roll cage + motherboard intact.
They ( training videos ) must have been formulated by the people who designed / put it together. No point in taking shortcuts.

Well, the way ThinkPads are designed, everything is screwed together.
You might be able to get away not taking memory, wireless card, etc off the motherboard, but most of the larger pieces have to be separated before you can even get to the screws that "hold the bottom plastic to the magnesium frame".

Using a good, full-size screwdriver can vastly reduce screw-stripping. 8)
