T60 LCD Panel Half Dark (mostly)

Hi Guys/Girls,

I have a t60 (2007-A16, 15” 1600x1200) that I recently purchased from eBay. The lower half of the LCD is dark but I can see through it showing the background image. Also, after I close the lid (let it sit for a little bit) and open the machine, the lower half of the panel is completely dark but then I start to see vertical lines appear, letting about a quarter of the background image appear. I am wondering if I need to replace the LCD or the inverter or both. Also, it is running Ubuntu so I wonder if the problem is a driver one? I am going to install WinXP over the next couple of days also.

Thank you for your time and helping me!
John

I also used the search function to see if this issues was gone over before but came up with no hits.

From your description, I'd say the LCD is knackered.
Inverters do die but that is quite rare.
Try to return your T60 for a refund if it is "not as described".
UXGA screens are expensive ($140 upwards) and getting more and more difficult to acquire.

Thank you RealBlackStuff for responding.

I did look on eBay for replacement screens and have read the forums about a certain seller that has good feedback on the site, that sells the IPS panel. Your right it's around $140.

You know I want to buy you a Guinness some time in the future, if you are ever near me or Philadelphia.

Thank you,
John
